The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has stopped the sales of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for its 2027 presidential ticket, even as evidence emerged that only 2023 Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Mr. Peter Obi bought the forms.
But the party changed the deadline for the collecting of Expression of Interest Forms for other elective posts like governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and State Houses of Assembly seats by one week, Vanguard reported.
Sources in the party said yesterday that Obi, former governor of Anambra State, was the only aspirant who bought the forms as at the close of sale of the presidential forms.
The National Secretary, Mr. Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu of the NDC said the time earlier scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, 2026 has been extended to 12 midnight, Sunday, May 24, 2026.
The statement said the extension was exclusively for aspirants seeking tickets to contest for membership of the State Houses of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate and governorship.
However, it said the Expression of Interest Forms for the office of the President were formally concluded.
The party announced a timeline indicating that screening of aspirants who had purchased and completed the forms will begin today, Tuesday, May 19 and end on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
The party further stated that the gathering and return of Nomination Forms for screened and cleared contestants would start on May 20 and expire on May 26, 2026.
The NDC further warned that no extension will be given after the revised deadline and encouraged the hopefuls to strictly adhere to the standards and timetables.
The party instructed all aspirants to present themselves for screening and pre-qualification interviews at designated centres across the country with relevant documents which include educational certificates, birth certificate or declaration of age, passport photographs, voter’s card, NDC membership card and curriculum vitae.
“All documents submitted to the Screening Committee should be in six copies,” the statement said.
The NDC also stated screening would take into consideration the wish of the public, local peculiarities, capacity and competency and character of aspirants.
It also called on the Screening Committee to evaluate the party’s affirmative action policy for women, youth and those living with disabilities.
The party urged applicants to embrace consensus building and noted that only aspirants passed by the screening process would be qualified to acquire nomination forms.
ADC is poised to emerge as the consensus presidential standard bearer with the development Obi who just defected to the NDC from the African Democratic Congress.
