Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday received a presidential aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Peter Obi who came to consult him on the state of the nation and 2027 general elections.
The disclosure was made by Obi during a closed-door meeting with the former president in Abuja.
Channels TV reported that he led a delegation of political heavyweights from the South-East to the conference, comprising serving and past MPs, and former Governor of Imo State, Achike Udenwa.
Speaking to press following the meeting, the former Anambra State governor said the visit was part of ongoing consultations ahead of the 2027 elections.
“Respected former president has been consulted by prominent leaders from the South-East. Obi said: “That is basically what it is – on the 2027 elections, and overall, about Nigeria.
Obi has been holding meetings with political big wigs around the country as part of ongoing consultations ahead of the ADC presidential primaries for the 2027 general elections.
Last week, the Labour Party 2023 presidential candidate was in Bauchi with the South-East leaders where they had a closed-door meeting with Bala Mohammed.
After the meeting, Obi said the visit was meant to promote national unity and foster cooperation across the regions.
My aim is to seek the assistance and collaboration of His Excellency and the stakeholders of Bauchi and the North-East in our endeavor to unite this country. We want a unified country to build a future for our children.
“The country can’t continue the way it is now, we are going in the wrong direction and we need to turn that around for all. “That is the simple purpose of why we are here – to seek the support of the stakeholders of Bauchi in building a new Nigeria that will be of benefit to all,” he continued.
