Supporters of Peter Obi, who used to be the governor of Anambra State, and Rabiu Kwankwaso, who used to be the governor of Kano State, have started a new political pressure group called the Obi–Kwankwaso (OK) Movement. This group is working to get people to vote in the 2027 general elections.
The movement is happening because there has been more disagreement within the coalition African Democratic Congress (ADC) on who will run for president, according to Daily Trust.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former governors Rotimi Amaechi, Peter Obi, and Kwankwaso have all said they want to be the ADC’s presidential candidate.
The group, which made its debut in Abuja yesterday, said it has already set up institutions in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory and hired state and zonal coordinators to carry out its plans.
Justin Ijeh, the movement’s National Publicity Secretary, said this in a statement in Abuja Wednesday.
He said that the effort was a group of political groups, including the Obidient Movement, Kwankwasiyya, the New Nigeria People’s Party, and the African Democratic Congress.
The change shows that the opposition alliance is reorganizing again, as there is more and more doubt over who would earn the ADC presidential ticket before the 2027 general elections.
The people behind the OK Movement said they are using the framework and grassroots appeal of the Obidient Movement, which changed Nigeria’s political landscape during the 2023 elections by getting young people involved.
Ijeh went on to say that the new platform is made up of people from the Kwankwasiya, Obidients, New Nigeria People’s Party, and the African Democratic Congress.
He said, “Nigeria is at a turning point.” The Obi–Kwankwaso (OK) Movement officially reveals its national and state structures today, as our people deal with the unprecedented economic suffering, the rising cost of living, and the constant threat of violence.
Dr. Yunusa Tanko, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, stated when we talked to him that the group is working with existing Obi support institutions to create a unified presidential ticket under the ADC.
“Yes, Ijeh and others are some of our people.” There is no split. He remarked, “The OK Movement and The Village Boys Movement are both working toward the same goal.”
