Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, has told the Planning, Research and Statistics, PRS, Schedule Officers of the Scheme to make sure that the data is accurate, the monitoring systems are better, and the assessment frameworks are better inside the Service Corps.
The Director General made this request during his speech at the 2026 NYSC Planning, Research, and Statistics Schedule Officers’ Workshop, which was held in Abuja.
General Nafiu stressed that the Scheme needs accurate and timely data to make good decisions and policies.
The Director-General, whose speech was read by Chief Chinwendu Chukwu, the Director of Reforms Coordination and Service Improvement, said that the workshop was an important place for people to think, share knowledge, and modify their strategies to improve service delivery.
He said that officers who are in charge of PRS must have the right skills and knowledge. He also said that management would keep focusing on growing capacity through training and other incentives to make sure that everyone is doing their best.
Nafiu told the people at the session to make the most of it by improving their abilities and coming up with new ways to do their jobs more efficiently.
“As PRS Schedule Officers, you are in charge of the Scheme’s records and archival materials at the State Secretariats.” He said, “You must protect these resources with a strong sense of duty.”
He also called the officers the Scheme’s “intellectual backbone” and encouraged them to do research that would help spread the NYSC’s ideals and operations.
The Director-General said again that Management is committed to strengthening research efforts, encouraging collaboration across departments, and completely integrating PRS activities into the Scheme’s overall strategic framework.
He remarked, “We will continue to create an environment that encourages the best performance and operational efficiency.”
He said, “Because of this, all PRS Officers are encouraged to stay dedicated, creative, and proactive in doing their jobs.”
Mr. Nura Umar, the Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics, said in his speech that the workshop fits with the Director-General’s strategic goal of building a strong workforce for the Scheme.
He stressed that the workshop’s theme, “Enhancing Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting Skills for PRS Officers for Improved Service Delivery,” shows how important it is to keep an eye on and evaluate NYSC programs to make sure they run smoothly.
Umar told the attendees to use what they learned to do better in their jobs. He also said that specialists would give talks to help them improve their professional skills.
People from all 36 states of the nation, the Federal Capital Territory, and the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters in Abuja came to the workshop.
