A woman who had just come back from the UK to go to a wedding in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, perished in a car accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
Babatunde Akinbiyi, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, said in a statement today that the event happened at 6 p.m. on Monday.
The PUNCH says that Akinbiyi said the deceased was in a white Toyota Camry with two other people when the car hit a moving truck.
He said that the UK returnee died because of the collision, and the other two people in the car, a man and a woman, were hurt.
He said, “There was a deadly car accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at the Christopher University section at about 17:48 on March 23.”
“According to what many saw, the driver of the Camry was going too fast and hit a vehicle that was moving.
“Three people were involved: a man and two women. One woman died, and the other two were hurt.
He also said that early inquiries showed that the two women who lived there had just come back from the UK to go to a wedding in Abeokuta before the event.
He said that the body of the dead person was transferred to the morgue at Redeemed Hospital, while the injured were taken to hospitals to be treated.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the two female casualties were on their way from Lagos to Abeokuta, Ogun State, to attend a wedding ceremony after they had just arrived from the United Kingdom.
The injured passengers were taken quickly to Famobis Hospital and Redeemed Hospital. The dead person has been sent to the morgue at Redeemed Hospital.
The statement went on to say, “TRACE sends its condolences to the families of the dead and injured, but drivers are once again warned to avoid driving too fast because of the consequences.”
This catastrophe happened less than three months after world boxing champion Anthony Joshua and a friend were in a similar mishap on the same part of the highway.
