Ado-Ekiti’s Ekiti State High Court has sentenced Olatide Temitope Emmanuel to death by hanging on two counts of murder and impersonation.
According to reports from Vanguard, the 48-year-old criminal was brought before Justice Jubril Aladejana on 11/12/2025 on two counts of murder and impersonation.
The indictment says that the convict killed Falade Bosede on June 24, 2019, at Odo Ikole compound, Erinmope Ekiti, which is within the jurisdiction of this honorable court. It also says that the defendant falsely claimed to be a medical doctor on June 9, 2019, at Ajebamidele street, Otun Ekiti.
The prosecutor says that the crimes are against sections 316 and 319(1) of the Criminal Code Law, Cap. C16, Laws of Ekit State, 2012.
A witness told the police (Rev. Omotade) that the deceased husband’s wife died during childbirth at Erinmope around 9:00 pm. When I got to the hospital, I saw the body on the stretcher and the self-proclaimed doctor standing next to it. When I looked closely at the body, I saw that the operation was done poorly.
“I then called the police in Otun Ekiti to take over the case and do a full investigation,” he said in conclusion.
The defendant declared in his own statement to the court, “I was a nursing apprentice at a hospital in Lagos State.” After I finished, I got a certificate and opened my own clinic in Erinmope Ekiti in 2019.
“The dead was not my patient, but she came to tell me that she was about to give birth. After various tests, I told her and her husband that she would have a cesarean section to give birth, and they agreed. The surgery went well, and both the mother and child lived, although the mother had problems afterward and died later.
Kunle-Shina Adeyemo, the prosecution, called seven witnesses and used statements from the defendant, medical records, photos of the dead person, and other things as evidence to support his case.
The defendant’s lawyer, Adeyinka Opaleke, spoke for him, and he did not summon any witnesses.
Justice Aladejana noted in his decision, “The defendant’s confession during cross-examination that he was not qualified to be a medical professional but still opened up a human being, knowing he had no training or certification to do so, shows that the defendant is inherently callous.”
“I think the defendant was very careless in what he did to the now-dead Bosede Falade.
The prosecution has shown beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant’s careless actions led to her death on June 24, 2019.
The defendant is therefore guilty as charged.
“The judge said, “The decision of this court is that you, Olatide Temitope Emmanuel, be hanged by the neck until you are dead. May the Lord have pity on your soul.”
