The Director-General of the Nigerian Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Engr. (Dr.) Abisoye Coker-Odusote, has praised the Association of Corporate Online Editors (ACOE) for helping to spread the word about the Commission’s work, especially the ongoing National Identification Number (NIN) enrollment across the country.
The DG said during a visit by ACOE to the Commission’s offices in Abuja on Tuesday that the relationship between NIMC and the online editors was very important for moving Nigeria’s digital identity agenda forward.
Coker-Odusote, who was represented by top directors, said again that the Commission is committed to better service, better staff welfare, and more NIN enrollment in order to fulfill its constitutional duty to register all Nigerians.
Mrs. Rhoda Jackden, the Director of Human Capital Management, spoke on behalf of the DG and thanked ACOE for always being in the news and helping NIMC get more attention.
“We thank you for your constant support through meetings, workshops, and other activities where we work together. She said, “Our Human Capital Management Department is still committed to staff welfare, training, and capacity development to make sure that every employee is fully prepared to carry out the Commission’s mandate.”
She said that more than 3,700 employees at all levels received training last year. This included management development programs that were meant to make the institution more efficient.
Jackden said that NIMC has stepped up its efforts to enroll people at the ward level around the country since the program began on February 16, 2026. She said that getting a NIN is now necessary to use government services and is a key part of the administration’s efforts to improve service delivery and include everyone in the country.
She went on to say that the Commission is making great progress toward enrolling all Nigerians in order to get ready for the release of the General Multipurpose Card, thanks to the help of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The DG also thanked ACOE for giving her the Exemplary Service Award, saying that it was a boost for her.
Sola Akingboye, the chairman of ACOE, praised Coker-Odusote’s leadership since she took office in 2023, calling her time in office a defining time in Nigeria’s digital identity development.
He said that more than 120 million people have signed up for NIN, which has greatly increased the size of the national identity database. He also talked about operational changes that, according to reports, cut down on extortion and unauthorized fees at enrollment centers by 40%, restored public trust, and cleared a two-year backlog of payments owing to Front-End Partners (FEPs).
Akingboye also talked about sending out more than 800 mobile enrollment devices to areas that don’t have enough of them and giving out more than 2,500 new systems to update infrastructure and make operations run more smoothly.
He talked about worker welfare changes such a 25–30 percent pay raise approved by the President, the promotion of more than 3,000 staff members, and the start of welfare programs like staff bus services and food support programs.
He stated, “These milestones show visionary leadership and a strong commitment to cleaning up, digitizing, and strengthening Nigeria’s identity framework.”
The ACOE chairman said again that the group is committed to ethical journalism and responsible digital storytelling. He promised to keep helping NIMC’s reforms and successes by reporting on them in a way that is believable.
“Perception shapes policy impact in today’s digital age.” He said, “Our editors are in a good position to turn technical reforms into stories that are easy to understand and focus on the people.”
He also asked for ongoing media involvement with the DG and management team, such as guided tours of some NIMC sites and regular media briefings to improve public knowledge and openness.
As one of the best parts of the visit, Coker-Odusote was given the association’s symbolic muffler, which is a sign of honor and inclusion given only to important people. This was done to thank her for her work to improve Nigeria’s digital identity ecosystem.
Kayode Adegoke (PhD), the Director of Media and Communications; Mr. Elvis Alagbegbe, the Director of the Office of the DG; Mrs. Rhoda Jackden, the Director of Human Capital Management; Halima Lawal, the Head of Content; and members of the visiting ACOE delegation led by their chairman were all there.
