Innoson Group is slowly becoming one of the biggest employers in Nigeria’s manufacturing sector. Innocent Chukwuma, the CEO of the company, says that 8,000 people now work directly for the automaker. A new facility that is being built will bring another 2,000 employment.
The Nigerian car company Innoson Group says it now has 8,000 employees.
Innocent Chukwuma, the CEO, wants to hire 2,000 more people for a new plant that is being built right now.
To help farmers, the business is also developing a tractor factory at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
Innoson maintains that its expansions are meant to make Nigeria’s industrial capability stronger, and the Bank of Industry supports them.
Chukwuma told the numbers during a tour of the company’s production site in Nnewi, which is where they make vehicles for the Nigerian market.
The manufacturing sector in Nigeria has had a hard time because of a lack of foreign exchange, high electricity prices, and competition from imports. That makes Innoson’s growth uncommon and possibly important.
Chukwuma added that new manufacturing lines that are almost done will “significantly increase” the amount of work and the number of people working across the country.
The CEO added that the corporation intentionally puts women in tasks that require a lot of precision: “In some sensitive areas, we decided that it is women who will be there because they follow the rules.” Women are more careful when they need to be accurate in some areas. Women are more likely to follow the rules than men. If you train them, they will follow the rules.
Innoson is getting into the business of making farm equipment.
The car company is building a tractor plant at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. This is a planned move that might make it easier for farmers to get the tools they need and make them less dependent on imported machinery.
Chukwuma added that his company’s growth was due to a long-term relationship with the Bank of Industry, which he said has helped them buy equipment for more than 20 years.
Omar Shekarau, the bank’s Executive Director for Large Enterprises, complimented Innoson’s growth from a modest firm to a company that Nigerians are proud of. He also added that the bank would keep helping the business.
He also advised Nigerians to buy from local businesses to help the economy grow.
Innoson is becoming a major role in Nigeria’s industrialization effort at a time when many firms are decreasing instead of growing. The company is doing this by hiring more people, opening a new facility, and moving into agricultural equipment.
