A commercial bus caught fire on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos, close to the UNILAG Waterfront. This caused a lot of traffic to back up along the busy corridor.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) acknowledged the occurrence and posted a video of the flaming car on its official social media accounts.
LASTMA said that the fire started on the bridge axis inward Oworonshoki, which led traffic officials to quickly respond to protect the area and control the flow of traffic.
“A bus caught fire on the Third Mainland Bridge.” According to LASTMA, “Our officers are on the ground managing traffic and making sure everyone is safe.”
The exact cause of the fire has not been made public, however as of the time this report was filed, no one had been hurt.
While recovery activities were going on, drivers were told to stay calm, follow traffic rules, and think about using different routes.
The Third Mainland Bridge is one of the busiest roads in Lagos, and accidents along the axis typically cause a lot of traffic.
