Speculation that Senator Ireti Kingibe’s political career is being threatened by Minister Nyesom Wike of the Federal Capital Territory has been denied by the legislator representing the FCT at the National Assembly.
When asked if she planned to run for Senate again in the 2027 election, she responded that Wike had “no say” in the matter.
She responded, “Absolutely no” to a question about whether Wike posed a political threat on Channels Television last night.
She claims that the voters in the FCT decide the fate of candidates, and the previous governor of Rivers State has no influence over it.
From (former President Olusegun) Obasanjo onwards, very few persons have any say over the voting behavior of the FCT residents.
Just as Minister Wike cannot force anyone to work for the FCT, he also cannot force me to win or lose.
“The FCT is not organized in that manner. “So, he does not threaten me in the least,” she emphasized.
According to Kingibe, the African Democratic Congress was a better option than the Labour Party, thus she defected from the former.
All of us who are planning to run for re-election in 2027—including those pursuing local council elections—from the Labour Party have opted to shift to the ADC, so that’s where I joined.
You need a platform to run for office, and if you’re opposed to the Labour Party, the ADC is a good choice. That’s the crux of the matter.
It has nothing to do with Minister Wike. Before he brings up 2027, let’s watch how the local elections play out. It is my firm belief that by 2027, the FCT will not be his top concern. Instead of fretting over who will or will not return to the FCT, he will have other matters to attend to, the senator added.
The legislator criticized the minister’s performance, pointing out that the FCT’s healthcare system and garbage management both need greater investment.
She claims that some FCT medical centers only have paracetamol on hand.
In addition, she expressed her desire for him to be more law-abiding.
The hospitals are deserted, though, and that’s just my health problem. Nothing exists. Several hospitals in the FCT are within my reach.
You won’t be able to acquire more than Panadol, I promise you. The senator emphasized that these matters have an impact on the welfare of the general public.
