The Nigeria Police Force has put a stop to enforcing its tinted glass permit policy across the country after a temporary court ruling stopped the move.
Channels TV says that the Force said on December 15, 2025, that it will start enforcing the policy on January 2, 2026, because it is responsible for keeping the public and its own safety.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the Force Public Relations Officer, signed a statement yesterday saying that the police had been given an interim order on December 17, 2025.
The enforcement will stay on hold until the substantive suit is heard and decided or the interim order is lifted.
The statement said, “The Nigeria Police Force was served with an interim order of court in Suit No. HOR/FHR/M/31/2025, issued on 17th December 2025, restraining the Force from proceeding with the enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit or the vacation of the order.”
The police also said that they had filed an appearance in the case, made preliminary objections, and formally asked for the interim injunction to be lifted.
The matter has been put off until January 20, 2026, for more action.
The Nigeria Police Force has shown up in the case, submitted preliminary objections, and formally asked for the vacation of the interim order in keeping with their constitutional duties and respect for the authority of the courts. “The court has put off the case until January 20, 2026, for more proceedings,” the statement said.
The statement said that the suspension of enforcement is being done just as the court ordered.
“Because of this, and only because of the current court order, the Nigeria Police Force has put the enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy on hold across the country until the court makes a decision.”
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun said again that the Force is committed to following the law while doing its job of protecting lives and property.
“The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, says that the Nigeria Police Force is still committed to preserving the rule of law while carrying out its main duty of protecting lives and property. The statement went on to say, “The Force will continue to use legal, intelligence-based methods to deal with security issues and protect the safety of the public across the country.”
The Force also told the public that it would keep them updated on any new developments and give clear instructions as needed, when the court made its decision on the subject, in the best interest of public order and national security.
