A five-member syndicate that was detained for allegedly defrauding one Halima Sanni of N26, 550,000 (Twenty-Six Million, Five Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira) was found in possession of massive counterfeit foreign notes totaling $3, 430,000 (Three Million, Four Hundred and Thirty Thousand United States Dollars) and €280,000 (Two Hundred and Eighty Thousand Euros).
Following extensive surveillance and intelligence on their fraudulent activities, the herbalists Akingbola Omotayo, Adeola Funsho Ogunrinde, Yahaya Amodu, Kubratu Babalola Olaitan (female), and Familola Sunday Olaitan were taken into custody at their shrines in Osun and Lagos States, respectively, on December 7 and 8, 2025, according to Daily Independent.
Under the guise of offering spiritual purification and remedies for various illnesses, the suspects were allegedly robbing gullible people of their rightful incomes, according to the investigation.
Additionally, they allegedly promised their victims that they would be able to create many banknotes, which would need to be cleansed by a genie through spiritual sacrifice before the money could be spent. All of this was accomplished by hypnotizing their victims in order to raise funds for the sacrifice.
They were also found to have cell phones and two exotic automobiles.
As soon as the investigations are over, the suspects will face charges in court.
