The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s National Working Committee (NWC) has given expulsion certificates to Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and other officials dismissed during the party’s most recent convention in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.
Addressing journalists following a meeting of the NWC today in Abuja, National Chairman Kabiru Turaki, SAN, stated that the topic of expulsion of members was considered.
Turaki explained, “We have taken note of the fact that Nigerian law prohibits dual membership in political parties, therefore we have endeavored to make it easier for them. Now that they are no longer members of our party, and the National Convention, our party’s highest decision-making organ, has expelled them, we have decided to issue them certificates of expulsion.
“So that, when they go to register with other political parties in Nigeria, they will show these certificates as proof that they are no longer members of the PDP, and so those parties will not accuse them of trying to belong to more than one political party.”
He stated that the certificates had been delivered to 11 individuals, including Nyesom Wike, former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, Umaru Bature, Kamarudeen Ajibade,SAN, Abdurahman Muhammad, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, Mr Austin Nwachukwu, Abraham Amah Nnanna, George Turna, and Chief Dan Orbih, via courier.
Turaki stated that the measure was vital to provide Nigerians with information about their status, particularly critical institutions involved in the management of political parties, primarily INEC, and authorities in charge of societal security.
He requested that the Nigeria Police, the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Civil Defence Corps, and other government agencies “be aware that these individuals are no longer members of our party.” They’ve been expelled. They stay expelled. We have officially validated their expulsion and have sent them the documents.”
He also stated that members of the society will soon be told “via proper disclaimers that any person who decides to do business with any or all of them in the future does so at his or her own risk.” They are no longer part of the People’s Democratic Party. They’ve been expelled. Today, you serve as living witnesses to their expulsion documents. We hope that members of the PDP in Nigeria and the diaspora would be aware that the party has once again eliminated the cankerworms that have been affecting and causing issues in our activities.
“We are now prepared to accept the responsibility of carrying out our tasks as Nigeria’s premier opposition party. We will give Nigerians with a legitimate alternative. We will deliver authentic leadership to Nigerians through God’s special gift beginning in 2027.”
