Emiliano Egwunbare, a 12-year-old boy, was allegedly kidnapped and slain by his 18-year-old cousin, Tega Emajuwa.
According to Sunday Guardian, the event took place in the Obagie Community of the Egor Local Government Area of Edo State.
The suspect and two of his friends are said to have kidnapped their victim and asked for money from the victim’s parents, but they didn’t let him go.
The culprit had supposedly lived with Emiliano’s parents for a few months before committing the horrible crime on September 16, 2025.
Sources say that when the ransom was paid, the police got involved, and with good intelligence, they were able to find and capture Emajuwa.
A police source added that Emajuwa admitted to the crime a week after his detention. They also said that two of his accomplices, Edugie Destiny, 20, and Osayande Vincent, 23, were detained.
Their confession led the police to the well where they threw Emiliano’s body.
It is said that some of Emiliano’s important organs were taken.
ASP Eno Ikoedem, the deputy spokesman for the Edo Police Command, acknowledged the event and rejected claims that the suspects had been let go.
She added that the Ogida Police Division first heard about the matter, but it was later sent to the Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Unit in Benin for a secret investigation.
“After gathering tactical and technological intelligence over a long period of time, members of the team detained three suspects: Tega Emajuwa, 18; Edugie Destiny, 20; and Osayande Vincent, 23. All three of them confessed to being involved in the crime.
“Sadly, the victim’s body was eventually found in a well in the Obagie Community during the investigation.
“The bodies were taken away and put in the mortuary at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) for an autopsy.
The mother of the dead person said in a viral video that was recently shared on social media that the suspects have been let go by the police.
“The Edo State Police Command wants to make it clear that this claim is false, misleading, and without basis.”
The suspects stayed in jail until they were charged in court on October 16, 2025. The case is still going on, and they are all being held for prosecution.
“The mother of the deceased was there in court during the proceedings.”
