President Bola Tinubu said on Thursday that his government is dedicated to developing a reliable, safe, verifiable, and useable identity management system for everyone. He said that this kind of system is essential for the country’s development goals.
During the unveiling of the NINAUTH APP, a digital, mobile-based identity authentication app made by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), President Tinubu addressed at the State House.

He also said that his government is using technology to make government more efficient, open, and accountable.
In addition, President Tinubu promised that all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) will soon start using the new app to check staff and data.
The NIMC NINAuth App’s official launch today marks a big step forward in our country’s digital public infrastructure journey as Africa’s largest identity database. This new idea is another step toward our shared goal of a Nigeria that is digitally empowered.
“Our administration is dedicated to using technology to make government more efficient, open, and accountable as part of the Renewed Hope Agenda.” The modernization of digital infrastructure is a key part of this plan. It will get rid of superfluous bottlenecks and make sure that every Nigerian, no matter where they live or what their background is, can get the services they need without having to deal with bureaucratic delays.
President Tinubu said that the “App” will put Nigeria on par with the world’s most technologically advanced countries and make it possible for everyone to easily and safely access services, opportunities, and benefits while keeping the highest levels of data protection and national security.
“This way, we are making it easier to get to, cutting down on red tape, and closing the gaps where corruption and inefficiency can thrive.”
“A credible and open National Identity Management System is essential to our national development goals. The President said, “It helps with financial inclusion, makes social welfare delivery stronger, makes our security architecture better, and makes sure that we have accurate population data for planning based on evidence.”
President Tinubu said that the NINAuth will create a single National Identity Database that will benefit all citizens and legal residents of Nigeria. This database will support social programs, make elections more fair, improve access to healthcare, and ensure that our commonwealth is distributed fairly.
President Tinubu urged people to use the new app and praised NIMC for making identity management more efficient and in line with best practices throughout the world.
“My fellow Nigerians, the future we want is one where technology gives power to all citizens and where faith in government is based on openness, efficiency, and inclusion. The release of this app shows that the commitments we made as a government are being kept and are leading to real changes that make life better every day.
“Let’s all accept this new time. Let’s take care of it, utilize it wisely, and make sure it connects our people, our institutions, and our hopes for a better, more successful society.
President Tinubu ended by saying, “Together, we are building a nation where every identity counts and every citizen must matter.”
Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, said again how important a secure national identity is for the country’s growth. He said that President Tinubu has shown that he can solve problems and make the country safer by improving the identity management system through the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“Your excellency, you are using technology to solve tomorrow’s problem. Technology is always changing; it is closing the gap.
“Every country that wants to be effective must first create systems that can find, verify, and protect its inhabitants. “Identity is not just a matter of administration; it is the foundation of governance, national security, and service delivery,” he stated.
Engr. (Dr.) Abisoye Coker-Odusote, the Director General of NIMC, explained how the NINAuth works. He said that the app would stop people from having multiple copies of the same data and would give businesses and other services real-time data and information authentication.
The DG said, “It is important that every business or enterprise in this country, no matter how big or small, can access verifiable identity credentials for every citizen in Nigeria, and the same goes for the government.”
She said that NIMC had signed up 126,717,316 people so far, with around 25 million of them signing up in the last two years. This means that there are an average of 1.3 million verification hits every day.
