Breaking : Fear spreads as the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) orders an immediate standby force to combat the Niger junta.
Citizens of the Niger Republic are understandably worried after the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) issued an order for its standby force to restore constitutional order in the country.
While reading the ECOWAS resolution on the Niger coup at today’s ECOWAS Extraordinary meeting in Abuja, ECOWAS President Omar Alieu Touray made the declaration.
The document also urged the African Union, the AU, partner countries, and institutions to back the sub-regional body’s resolution.
ECOWAS has stated that the military junta in the Niger Republic has rejected all attempts at dialogue and has condemned the ongoing detention of President Mohamed Bazoum and his family.
This resolution calls for the ECOWAS standby force to be activated immediately with all of its elements, as stated by the committee of the Chief of Defence Staff.
Send in the ECOWAS standby force to put things right in the Republic of Niger, please.
“Reiterate its unwavering dedication to the peaceful restoration of constitutional order.”
