Panic as Policemen kill soldier in Adamawa

The Adamawa State Police Command  on Monday confirmed a clash between its operatives and those of the military in which a soldier was killed.

Police spokesman Suleiman Nyuroje said in a statement  that the Command had launched an investigation.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Sikiru Akande, has strongly condemned the recent conflict between police officers and military along Numan Road that resulted in an exchange of fire and murder of a military officer, all in the line of duty to protect the citizenry.

“The CP warns that attacks on security officers in the line of duty would no longer be tolerated under whatever guise, as the command holds the lives of all security personnel are sacrosanct, and such unwarranted conflict would be strictly treated in accordance with extant laws,” the statement said.

The statement also quoted the Commissioner of Police as stressing that it is vital for the police to work with sister security agents to enable them advance their mandate of protecting the citizens better.

t added, “The police boss appealed for calm as the top management of both security agencies are doing everything legally possible to address the situation.”

In Ogidi, Anambra State, a policeman was reported killed by gunmen.

The Nation learnt that the policeman was killed on the premises of the community’s town hall.

His killers also took away his rifle, it was said.

A resident said, “They waited there for a long time until they sighted one of the policemen, shot him dead and dispossessed him of his AK47 rifle before fleeing the scene.”

Police spokesman Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the incident. (The Nation: Excluding headline)
