Customs probe man’s death in accident involving patrol vehicle
The Katsina Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has begun an investigation into the circumstances surrounding a road accident which claimed the life of a disabled person with three other persons sustaining injuries on Wednesday.
The accident, which occurred around Natinsta Barracks area along the Katsina-Jibia highway in the afternoon, was said to have involved a Customs patrol vehicle and another vehicle alleged to be conveying smuggled items.
Eyewitnesses said the patrol vehicle was chasing the other vehicle suspected of carrying smuggled items from Jibia when the vehicle being chased overran and killed the disabled man riding on his motorcycle.
Three other persons were also injured in the accident which occurred around 3:30pm.
The deceased was said to be riding on his motorcycle from Jibia to Katsina when the accident happened.
It was also gathered that when the vehicle being chased was searched, there were no items inside it.
The NCS Comptroller for the Katsina Area Command, Dalha Wada-Chedi, in his reaction said an investigation had already commenced on the incident with a view to determining what actually happened.
“An investigation had already commenced to unravel circumstances behind the incident,” he stated. (The PUNCH)
