The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has posted the preliminary register of voters for the 2027 general elections on its web platform following concerns raised by Nigerians and other stakeholders on the accessibility of the voter registration.
But the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has committed to do all that is necessary to ensure that its candidates left off the INEC final list are permitted to participate in the 2027 general elections, The Guardian reported.
According to the Commission, the online publishing aimed to supplement the physical presentation of the preliminary register, which was held around the country from October 9 to 15, 2026, and enable more Nigerians to inspect their particulars.
Mohammed Haruna, Chairman of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee, said the register was accessible on https://display.inecnigeria.org. The Commission also said it has taken note of worries made by Nigerians and stakeholders on the need to make the register available online apart from the physical display currently carried out at the registration places.
INEC said it was still examining claims and objections emanating from the exercise until the certification and publication of the final register of voters on December 15, 2026.
The extra precaution was part of its commitment to transparency, accessibility and public confidence in the electoral process, the Commission said.
It asked Nigerians and stakeholders to remain engaged with the process, assuring that it was committed to the implementation of the Electoral Act, 2026 and delivery of credible elections.
NDC also has the difficulty of members who may vote for its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, but vote for other political parties’ nominees for the positions of governor, National Assembly and House of Assembly.
The development calls into question the party’s capacity to transform support for its presidential ticket into votes for its candidates at other levels of government.
The National Chairman of the NDC, Senator Moses Cleopas offered the assurance yesterday at the party’s third National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, saying the leadership will take all necessary means to ensure the participation of candidates left out in INEC’s final list.
Cleopas said the party would not withdraw any of its candidates and stressed that it would try to address the differences and ensure that those affected would be able to contest in the future elections.
He did not want the impacted candidates being left behind as the party geared up for the 2027 polls.
The problem emerged within the larger debates over the party’s electoral preparations, its internal reconciliation and the necessity of consolidating its institutions in view of the elections.
The chairman said the party’s reconciliation committee had gone round the geopolitical zones to interface with aspirants who were not satisfied with the results of its primaries.
