The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) section loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has lampooned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) over their assertion that the opposition is responsible for the present suffering in the country.
President Tinubu said his government was striving to remove the hardship brought by the opposition. Speaking at the APC presidential campaign flag-off at the Kaduna Township Stadium, Daily Trust reports.
Reacting to the comment, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, said the opposition particularly the PDP is not responsible for the hardship in the country, asking the APC to own up to its duty.
The PDP described the statements as “efforts to avoid responsibility and divert public attention from the pressing challenges confronting the country under the APC-led government.”
Rather, the APC should tell Nigerians what it intends to do to make food affordable, support farmers, boost local food production, create jobs, improve security, fight corruption, improve electricity supply, reduce transport cost and restore the purchasing power of ordinary Nigerians, among other pressing issues, rather than engage in political blame games, the PDP spokesman said.
“We entirely reject any attempt to use the PDP’s 16 years in government as a blanket alibi for the inadequacies of the present administration.
Nigerians deserve answers and not excuses after more than 10years of APC in power. Rather than drag the PDP into its own failures, the APC should tell Nigerians what it has done and the tangible steps it is taking to tackle the nation’s difficulties of the moment.
The PDP contends that the economic difficulties facing Nigeria cannot be tackled by simply blaming former PDP administrations. The background of history may be relevant, but it is not a permanent exemption from responsibility.
“Every administration is judged by its policies, decisions, achievements and most importantly the living conditions of the people it governs,” the statement stated.
PDP said Nigerians want practical solutions, affordable food, economic stability and improved security, not endless political arguments and blame shifting. “We remain confident that Nigerians will judge political parties by their records, policies and commitment to the welfare of the people,” the party added.
“We believe the increasing yearning of Nigerians to return to PDP leadership is a reflection of their desire for better governance, improved living conditions and a secure and prosperous country.
“Our message to the APC is very simple: stop the blame game and start taking responsibility. “The Nigerian people deserve solutions, not excuses.” “The government in power must respond to the country’s challenges through concrete, measurable and sustainable actions that will bring meaningful relief to the citizens.
“PDP is not responsible for the hunger that Nigerians are experiencing today. The APC must take ownership of its record and address the nation’s problems and fulfil its commitments to Nigerians. “The government in power has a responsibility to render account for its stewardship and show a credible path to economic recovery, food security and a better standard of living for all Nigerians” the PDP added.
