The Philippines’ air base had two military planes crash in the air while they were training. Four pilots were killed, the air force said today.
AFP says the SF-260 single-propeller planes crashed yesterday afternoon at Fernando Air Base, which is south of Manila.
Colonel Alvin Capinguian, spokesman for the Philippine Air Force, said in a statement, “Both planes went down within the base perimeter, and no other injuries were reported.”
The accident’s cause is being looked into, and Capinguian said that the air force’s SF-260 fleet has been briefly grounded as a safety measure.
In the past few years, there have been a number of fatal crashes involving Philippine military aircraft.
Three people were killed in May when another SF-260 plane crashed in the northern Philippines’ Benguet province while they were on a training flight.
