Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, the famous Yoruba elder statesman and national leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, is dead at 100 years.
Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, in a condolence statement personally signed by him on Tuesday, revealed the death of the prominent community leader, lamenting his demise.
Aiyedatiwa praised the late Fasoranti as a man of knowledge, integrity and selfless service, saying his contributions to Ondo State, Yorubaland and Nigeria would be indelible.
The governor said the elder statesman’s fatherly counsel, mentoring and strong stands on justice and good government would be sorely missed.
“Pa Fasoranti was a patriarch, a beacon of wisdom, integrity and selfless service whose life span of a hundred years was marked by uncommon commitment to the development of our dear State, Yorubaland and Nigeria at large,” he added.
Aiyedatiwa said that Fasoranti lived a life of fulfilment and left a legacy that would continue to inspire generations.
His administration and the people of Ondo State join in the sadness of the deceased’s family, associates and the wider community, he said.
The governor, on behalf of the state government and its people, commiserated with the Fasoranti family, the people of Akure Kingdom and the citizens of Ondo State.
He also prayed that the soul of the elder statesman rest in peace.
Fasoranti was seen by many as a strong voice in the socio-political affairs of the Yoruba nation. As the leader of Afenifere, he was one of the key players in discussions on national unity, governance and the interest of the Yoruba people.
