Clinical Psychologist, Scholar, Author, Rehabilitation Consultant, Humanitarian, Entrepreneur, Devoted Wife, and Loving Mother
Maureen Chidi Asika-Enahoro was a woman of extraordinary intellect, remarkable accomplishments, profound compassion, and unwavering determination. A distinguished Clinical Psychologist, Scholar, Author, Entrepreneur, and Humanitarian. She dedicated her life to education, empowering others, and making a meaningful difference in the world.
Born in Onitsha, Nigeria, Maureen was raised in a family that valued education, independence, generosity, morality and perseverance. Inspired by her Mother, Enyi Gloria Asika, and her Grandmother, Rebecca Asika, a remarkable businesswoman who raised her children after being widowed, Maureen developed the strength and intellectual curiosity that would define her life. Her early education in Nigeria was interrupted by the Biafra War, after which she continued her studies in Enugu and later England before pursuing higher education in the United States.
Maureen earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Quinnipiac University, a Master’s degree in Community and Clinical Psychology from the University of New Haven, and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) from New York University. Her professional qualifications included Registered Disability Analyst, Certification in Suicide Prevention, Certified Hypnotist, Certified Yoga Instructor, Certified Contracts Trainer and Doctor of Theology. A lifelong scholar, she remained deeply interested in psychology, spirituality, personal development, and the pursuit of knowledge.
Her distinguished professional career spanned more than three decades. She served twelve years with the State of Florida Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, beginning as a Therapist in the Mental Health Division before rising to the position of District Trainer and Regional Contracts Administrator. She traveled throughout the United States for specialized trainings and subsequently trained other rehabilitation professionals. She also served two terms as President of the Florida Rehabilitation Association and maintained a private Clinical Psychology practice in Florida.
Following her government service, Maureen secured a government contract and, alongside her beloved husband, Victor Maurice Enahoro, established New Alternatives, Inc., a Miami-based Vocational and Administrative Rehabilitation Organization. Together, they also pursued other entrepreneurial ventures, including Taritch International Ltd.
Maureen’s commitment to service extended beyond her professional career. She founded Love and Balance, Inc. and served as President of the Social Initiative for the Emancipation of Women and Youth in Nigeria, championing education, empowerment, mental health awareness, and opportunities for women and young people. She also hosted the internet radio program Love and Balance with Chidi, sharing her knowledge on relationships, emotional well-being, and personal growth.
A gifted and prolific Author, Maureen published six books: A Slice of Africa: Exotic West African Cuisines; Innocence Interrupted; Till Cheating Do Us Part; Hear Me Out: Easy Success for the Youth; Lifeline: One Woman’s Miraculous Journey Through an Incurable Disease; The Cancer Game: Reflections on the Mystery Journey and was working on a seventh book. Through her writings, she explored African culture, child protection, marriage, youth empowerment, and the importance of faith and perseverance in overcoming life’s challenges.
Despite her numerous professional accomplishments, family remained at the center of Maureen’s life. She met Victor while studying in Connecticut, beginning what she lovingly described as “a True Love Story.” Together, they built a life rooted in love, friendship, partnership, and devotion. They raised their children, Tara Peaches Chidi Enahoro and Ritchie Anthony Chinedu Enahoro, in Miami, Florida. Maureen was also part of a blended family that included Stepchildren and Grandchildren. As a mother, she instilled the values of education, independence, compassion, faith, and determination.
Through her marriage, Maureen became part of the distinguished Enahoro Family and shared a meaningful relationship with her Father-in-Law, Chief Anthony Eronsele Enahoro, the celebrated Nigerian Nationalist and Statesman. Recognizing her profound influence on Victor’s life, he always described Maureen as Victor’s Angel.
For many years, Maureen faced multiple myeloma with extraordinary courage, faith, and perseverance. Despite significant medical challenges, she continued to write, learn, inspire, and embrace life. Throughout her journey, Victor remained devotedly by her side, supported by their children, Tara, Ritchie, Victor Tokunbo, Pamela, Blair, Brooke and Grandchildren who lovingly cared for and advocated for their mother.
Her illness was only one chapter of her life. It never defined the extraordinary woman she was.
On September 26, 2026 (Full Harvest Moon Night), Maureen passed away at the age of 68, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of knowledge, strength, compassion, service, and unconditional love.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Victor Maurice Enahoro, her children, Tara and Ritchie, her Stepchildren and a loving Extended Family.
Her accomplishments will continue to inspire, her books will preserve her wisdom, and her love will forever live on through the family she cherished.
As her beloved husband so beautifully expressed:
“Now she’s our guardian angel.”
Always and Forever.
