The Edo State Police Command has arrested seven suspected cultists in Otuo and recovered a six-month-old infant reportedly stolen and brought to Imo State while suspects linked to the alleged sexual violation and online exposure of a young girl in Ekiadolor have also been detained.
This was announced by the Police Public Relations Officer, Edo State Command, ASP Eno Ikoedem while briefing journalists on the operational successes of the Command on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Patrick Daaor. Law enforcement
The arrests and recovery were part of persistent intelligence-led efforts to tackle criminal activities and protect lives and property across the state, Ikoedem said.
She said the Command had also conducted a one-week joint clearance operation in sections of Edo North which targeted the hideouts of criminals in forest areas.
She said the operation was successful as the impacted villages were reasonably calm and tranquil especially with no recorded kidnapping incidences during the period.
The police spokesperson further said officers of the Gender and Family Unit rescued a six-month-old baby who was allegedly stolen and transferred to Imo State, while individuals linked to the incident were apprehended. Law enforcement
The baby has subsequently been reunited with the family, she said.
Operatives of Otuo Division have detained seven alleged notorious cult members in an information led operation aimed at curbing cult related activities in the area in another development.
The Command also apprehended suspects claimed to have stripped a young girl at the Ekiadolor axis and circulated the material on social media.
Ikoedem said the accused were in police custody and investigations were proceeding to ensure that all those deemed accountable would face the law.
A 37-year-old guy was arrested by the police over the alleged rape of a 70-year-old woman in Igueben, she said. Law Enforcement
She said the case was under comprehensive investigation and the suspect would be prosecuted according to the law after the end of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police advised locals to continue to provide credible and timely information to security services, while urging parents and young people to shun cultism and other illegal connections.
He also advised the public against using social media to humiliate, threaten, expose or sexually abuse individuals, adding that any form of sexual violence remained a criminal act.
The Command restated its resolve to sustain the intelligence-driven operations and to take concrete steps against criminal activities across Edo State.
