Airbus SE announces important changes to its Board of Directors after its meeting on Thursday 1 October 2026.
René Obermann, who announced his desire to step down in April 2026, will depart the Airbus Board of Directors as of October 1, 2026. He will focus on his recent appointment as Non-Executive Director and incoming Chairman of the Supervisory Board at SAP.
Christophe Fouquet, ASML’s CEO, has been co-opted by the Board of Directors to replace René Obermann as Non-Executive Director for the remainder of his tenure. He will then stand for a full three-year term at the next Annual General Meeting (AGM) in April 2027.

Michelin’s Chief Executive Officer, Florent Menegaux, has been appointed to replace Jean-Pierre Clamadieu and will seek a three-year term as Non-Executive Director at the 2027 AGM.
Amparo Moraleda, who succeeds her as Chair of the Airbus Board of Directors on 1 October 2026 and Oliver Zipse, former Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG, whose mandates end at the next AGM, will both stand for fresh mandates from shareholders at the 2027 AGM.
Also, the Board of Directors has appointed Mark Dunkerley as Chair of the Remuneration, Nomination and Governance Committee and Lead Independent Director, replacing Amparo Moraleda in this role.
“On behalf of the entire Board, I would like to thank René for his leadership and commitment as Chair over the past eight years,” stated Amparo Moraleda, Chairman of the Airbus Board of Directors.
“I am looking forward to working with my fellow Directors and to benefit from their deep expertise as we work together to keep Airbus agile, resilient and well-positioned to seize future opportunities and face the challenges ahead.”
“I would like to warmly thank René for his commitment, trusted partnership and rigorous focus on long-term value creation during his tenure as Chair,” stated Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury.
“René provided steadfast guidance through many of the crises Airbus navigated during his mandate, including the COVID pandemic. He was a relentless advocate of innovation in aerospace and defence, inspiring team Airbus to push the boundaries throughout our businesses. I wish him well in his future responsibilities and look forward to working with Amparo and the Board to continue to help drive Airbus’ long-term growth and strategic ambitions.”
