The National Examination Council (NECO) data have revealed that Abia State has been the highest performing state in the 2026 NECO results with a performance rate of 81.78 per cent.
Ebonyi State was second with 81.03 per cent while Ekiti State was in third position with 77.68 per cent, writes The Nation.
The results also revealed that nine other states had performance rates above 73 per cent with Delta, Osun, Lagos, Oyo, Imo, Bayelsa and Ogun rounding up the top 10 list.

The percentages are the performances of candidates in the individual states based on NECO 2026 statistics.
Abia led the ranking with 81.78 per cent, which implied that its rate of performance as recorded, was the greatest among the listed states.
Abia was followed closely by Ebonyi with 81.03 percent. The gap between the two states is only 0.75 percentage points.
Ekiti was third with 77.68 per cent, Delta was fourth with 75.17 per cent.
Lagos is sixth highest among the more populated states with 74.15 per cent followed closely by Oyo with 74.12 per cent.
Imo, Bayelsa and Ogun with 74.10 per cent, 73.92 per cent and 73.34 per cent respectively rounded up the top 10.
Ogun ranks 10th overall and has the widest disparity of 8.44 percentage points with the highest ranked state, Abia.
The ranking presents a state-by-state view of the performance of the 2026 NECO test with Abia and Ebonyi recording the two highest percentages of the states listed.
