Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has jokingly admitted that he does not know some of Nigeria’s leading entertainers, like Don Jazzy, Carter Efe and Poco Lee, saying they are not important enough for him to know.
Obasanjo made these remarks on the podcast of Comedian Isbae U, Curiosity Made Me Ask, in an episode released yesterday, Saturday, September 19.
During the conversation, Isbae U asked Obasanjo if he knew certain popular individuals in the entertainment business.
“You know Carter Efe?” “Isbae U enquired.
“I don’t know,” answered Obasanjo.
“You know Poco Lee?”
“No,” he said.
“Do you know Don Jazzy?”
“Ha,” said the ex-president.
Obasanjo then joked that the individuals Isbae U knows are not the people he knows.
“So, you know people who… “I don’t know that,” responded he.
The comic observed that the entertainers might know the former president even if Obasanjo did not know them, to which the latter humorously answered, “Ah, well, maybe because they no be important people, that’s why. That’s why I don’t know the folks you know.”
He compared this with his acquaintance with world figures such as the late Queen Elizabeth II whom he said he received personally in Nigeria and King Charles III who received him at his home in Wales.
Now, I assure you, I know Queen Elizabeth. “You claim you don’t know Queen Elizabeth,” Obasanjo replied.
“Do you know King Charles?” he asked Isbae U.
“I’ve heard of him,” the comedian replied.
“I know him,” Obasanjo said.
The banter was preceded by a chat in which Isbae U bragged about his international audience, and Obasanjo ridiculed him for having viewers abroad without ever visiting to the UK or US.
