The State Coordinators of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors (RHA), have cautioned the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to watch out for political arrangements that could threaten the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the determination of the party’s governors to President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 election. Welcoming support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid from Nigerians across political divides, the coordinators, in a statement signed by representatives from different geopolitical zones, warned that such support should not undermine the APC, its candidates or existing party structures.
The Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) had made its commitment known to President Tinubu and the party’s candidates at all levels in support of the position of the PGF, writes Daily Independent.
The organization expressed fears over the emergence of the Rainbow Coalition, saying that while various support groups should rally for the President, rival political formations should not cause confusion or compete with current APC grassroots movements.
“Minister Wike has the right to mobilise support for President Tinubu. “He has made it clear that the coalition is separate from the APC and is meant to mobilise support for the president across political parties,” the statement stated.
But if that mobilisation begins to operate against APC candidates, or develops competing centers of political authority in states and local communities, then it is reasonable for APC leaders and governors to draw a line.’
They stated that a presidential campaign could not be won by undercutting the political structures that are supposed to provide electoral support, citing the fact that APC governors had commitments to their party, candidates and states.
According to them, the Renewed Hope Ambassadors have been developing grassroots mobilisation structures across the country including national and zonal leadership, 774 local government areas, 8,809 wards and polling units nationwide.
The committee also highlighted the 2023 general election, noting that cross-party support arrangements yielded uneven results in various states and seats. It said that presidential support without a solid grassroots structure could bring fragmented results.
The organisers, who spoke to Wike and other allies of the president, asked them to act within a coordinated framework.
“Our message to Minister Wike is simple: support President Tinubu in every way but don’t use that support to undermine APC governors, APC candidates or the party structures working at the grassroots,” they added.
They said the 2027 election needs unity among the President’s followers, not competition among them for political mobilisation mechanisms.
The statement was backed by representatives including Chief Henry Ikechukwu Ikoh (Abia), Hon. Zachary Madiyi (Adamawa), Prince A. Ikim (Akwa Ibom), Amb. Tarzoor Terhemen (Benue), Chief Olajide Awe (Ekiti) and Hon. Musa Shuabu Mohammed (Jigawa) amongst others.
