Suspected hoodlums disrupted a campaign event of supporters of the Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Peter Obi and his running partner, Rabiu Kwankwaso in Warri, Delta State.
The event was reported to the public by Esther Umoh, who is described as a photographer linked with Obi, and said in a post on X that the campaign group members were attacked by politically-backed thugs.
Umoh said the assailants attacked members of the entourage of the governorship candidate of Delta State and other supporters of the Obidient and Kwankwasiya movements who were on campaign in the area.
“Reports say as at this morning, politically sponsored thugs shot @MamaPee__, @Drmopaul, @dchrisiyovwaye, the Delta State governorship candidate, members of his entourage and other Obidient and Kwankwasiya supporters out campaigning in Warri,” she said.
A video circulating with the accusations reportedly showed a chaotic situation, with a speaker heard stating, “Look at the thŭgs, they came to attack us. We have to face them. “We are so ready for them, so ready.”
The claim comes as Obi’s and Kwankwaso’s supporters are increasingly politically mobilising ahead of the 2027 elections.
Obi and Kwankwaso are now being mobilised on the NDC ticket and along with members of the Obidient and Kwankwasiyya movements form part of the wider support structure. The Obi-Kwankwaso support organization has just created a 59-member presidential campaign council of coordinators and directors nationwide.
