The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has said domestic airlines delayed 4,765 flights and cancelled 36 others in August 2026, with Air Peace and United Nigeria Airlines suffering the greatest disruptions.
This was stated by the regulator yesterday in a post on its official X Twitter, while providing its summary of domestic airline aircraft operations for the month.
The NCAA said 15 carriers flew 7,961 flights during the timeframe, with 59.9 per cent of their operations delayed.
Air Peace recorded the largest number of flights at 1,864 and had 1,330 delays – representing 71.4 percent of its total operations.
The Agency had over the weekend sanctioned RwandAir to the tune of N15 million over a consumer protection breach involving a passenger’s damaged baggage.
NCAA spokesperson Michael Achimugu made this known in a post on his personal X handle on Friday.
The reimbursement is under Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023 which provides for consumer protection in air travel, compensation and other remedies for travellers impacted by baggage-related concerns.
He said the fee was for failing to resolve the baggage issue within the required period.
In addition to the penalties, the NCAA has also ordered RwandAir to replace the passenger’s damaged bag and provide $170 as first need compensation.
The NCAA said the penalty highlights the need for airlines to address customer complaints immediately and adhere with consumer protection laws.
