The North East Governors’ Forum (NEGF) has rescheduled its annual meeting in Maiduguri, Borno State, from Thursday, September 10, to Friday, September 11, 2026.
The forum did not immediately disclose the reason for the adjustment, which affects its rotational meeting involving the six states of the Northeast.
Governors from Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe and Taraba are expected to converge on Maiduguri for the meeting, while secretaries to the state governments had been scheduled to arrive ahead of the governors for preliminary technical discussions.
The meeting comes as the region continues to grapple with longstanding security and development challenges, particularly insurgency, banditry, displacement and the need to accelerate reconstruction.
The NEGF serves as a regional platform for the six governors to coordinate responses to issues affecting the geopolitical zone. Its agenda has included security cooperation, infrastructure development, economic integration, agricultural advancement, education and environmental concerns such as desertification.
The forum also collaborates with federal institutions, including the North East Development Commission (NEDC), on reconstruction efforts, community rehabilitation and the resettlement of internally displaced persons.
Established in 2020, the forum holds its meetings rotationally across the six member states, providing an avenue for governors to assess regional priorities, harmonise policies and adopt joint positions on matters requiring federal attention.
The Maiduguri meeting is therefore expected to provide another opportunity for the governors to review progress on regional initiatives and strengthen a coordinated approach to the challenges confronting the Northeast.
