The federal government has declared that today, Tuesday, September 8, repair work on the damaged expansion joints on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway’s Kara Bridge segment will start.
The development is consistent with the prior notification from the Federal Ministry of Works, according to a statement released yesterday by Oluwaseun Osiyemi, Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation.
Due to public protest at the short notice and the necessity for efficient traffic management, the project, which was originally scheduled to start in August 2026, was put on hold for a traffic review.
In order to enhance road safety, structural integrity, and long-term traffic flow on the congested corridor, Senator David Umahi, the Minister of Works, is leading a two-week rehabilitation operation that entails replacing ageing expansion joints.
It is anticipated that the project will continue until September 22, 2026.
The Lagos State administration recommended drivers using the corridor to schedule their trips in advance because there will probably be a lot of traffic.
LASG clarified that one half of the impacted part will be blocked at a time, with drivers sharing the other open half interchangeably, in order to reduce its impact on traffic.
To guarantee that the rehabilitation is finished in the allotted two weeks, the government urged all drivers to be patient and work with traffic managers.
