President Bola Tinubu has warned Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke against embarrassing his opponents in the just concluded governorship race in the state.
Tinubu, who spoke when he received Adeleke at the Presidential Villa in Abuja yesterday, said the Osun State governor did not vanquish anybody but won an election.
“Don’t demonise any of your opponents,” he advised the governor.
And the people of Osun State have said their judgement about you, that they love you, they want you to lead. So you are going back to rule.
Anyone who does not celebrate a free and fair election, he said, does not deserve the laughter and the joys of democracy.
“Anybody, any democrat, anybody in the political environment who is not able to rejoice in the joy of a free and fair election does not deserve the laughter and the happiness of democracy.
“Do not make a single person a victim on your campaign. Nope. Not for you alone, not for the sake of Osun alone, for the generations. It is more vital that you develop a network of oneness.
“What I stated was that you conquered no one. You won an election. That’s the whole point of democracy.” “I am very happy that we are talking,” remarked Tinubu.
The governor was instructed by Tinubu that the best way he can thank the Osun people is to expand his coast, “not the way you sang it or celebrate it, but the way you act it”.
“Look at me, for example. “And here I am. God placed me here. God put you where you are now. Not the smartness of any of these guys.
“It’s only their support, not their intelligence.
“It is the wish of God that prevailed and the wish of the people for you,” the president said to Adeleke.
Tinubu said the governor was “in a very unique position to make history.”
“Promote unity, peace and stability,” he emphasised.
Instinct of Progressivism
The president also noted that Adeleke, in his campaign, demonstrated a progressive instinct.
“You’re doing what your progressive instinct says to do. And you made a very excellent mobilisation with your team, very good work. “
“You saw something scary, you yelled. Promote democracy, promote stability, promote rule of law.
