There is no template for growth in Northern Nigeria at the moment. The last development pattern was in the first republic when the late Sardauna Sir Ahmadu Bello put in place a determined plan to develop the North. Modern day Northern leaders have diverted Sardauna’s Northern development agenda to Personal development agenda thus further subjecting the region to poverty, insecurity and illiteracy.
A area that cannot address the Almajiri dilemma cannot claim to be serious about development. Rather than embarking on development in vital areas such as agriculture, skills acquisition, education, healthcare, mass housing, solid minerals development for job creation, jumpy Northern politicians especially Northern governors most of whom are ill-prepared and less-equipped for leadership, resort to MASS WEDDING wrapped as a religious garb to hoodwink and deceive their own people.
The North needs jobs, not mass weddings.
– Governors of the Northern states are not talking about the potentials of solar powered renewable energy in the region
– Despite the significant mineral deposits especially gold in the region, the Northern state governors are not talking about repositioning the region’s economy through solid minerals exploitation.
The broad stretch of Fadama is not being discussed for mechanised cultivation for rice by the Northern state governors despite the region’s arable land mass. If well harnessed, Goronyo Dam in Sokoto state can feed the whole nation with rice.”
Northern state governors are not talking of establishing cement plants in joint ventures with the private sector under PPP, despite the region’s enormous supplies of Calcium carbonate CaCO3, the primary raw material for cement manufacturing.
Northern politicians don’t know how to improve their towns. They know how to pursue and seize power.
The North is marked by insecurity, illiteracy and poverty. They don’t know what to do with power when they have it.
The Northern politicians that are useful to us know that we northerners are most susceptible to religion thus they exploit us using religion for their selfish purposes.
