A Magistrate’s Court sitting in Nomansland, Kano, has charged a young man, Nura Usman, and his mother, Izzatu Aminu, over an alleged conspiracy to assassinate the man’s father, Alhaji Usman Shanono.
The alleged scheme was said to have been concocted at Dantsinke Quarters in Kano where the accused were arraigned on counts of conspiracy and attempted murder.
Prosecution said the mother and son reportedly paid N500,000 to a hitman for the assassination of Shanono.
But the claimed assassin reportedly did not fulfilll the task. Instead he told Shanono about the supposed conspiracy.
Reports alleged Shanono and the suspected hitman later staged his death in a bid to convince the defendants that the killing had been carried out.
The claimed assassin reportedly removed Shanono’s wristwatch and other personal possessions, and used these to show the suspects that the task had been performed in support of the lie.
The defendants, claiming to believe that Shanono had been slain, proclaimed his death, and relatives and sympathisers gathered to mourn him.
But everything changed when Shanono later showed up with security officers and it turned out that his death had been fabricated.
The matter was adjourned until the 7th of September, 2026 for hearing before Magistrate Sakina Amina Yusuf.
