Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA have arrested two alleged members of the Lakurawa terrorist gang in two different counter-terrorism operations and freed 18 abducted victims in Zamfara State on Sunday, August 10, 2026.
The first operation was in reaction to a distress call near the boundaries of Sabon Gari Village, Kaura Namoda LGA.
Upon arrival, the military made contact with the militants, and rescued 18 abducted victims including Alhaji Aminu Dayau and his children.
Some terrorists managed to escape across a river line with other hostages before they could be freed.
Troops have increased exploitation of the region and continue efforts to find and rescue the remaining abducted victims while chasing fleeing terrorists.
In another intelligence-led operation, forces captured two alleged members of the Lakurawa Terrorist Group namely, Abdul Rahman Bouye and Mohammed Jamilu, both Niger Republic natives.
“Preliminary intelligence indicates the suspects were allegedly involved in terrorist activities in the general area of Zurmi, including provision of information and technical assistance for the emplacement of IEDs along the Zurmi-MSR road.
Among the items retrieved were identity cards, master keys and local charms.
The accused are still in military detention pending their handover to the Department of State Services for additional actions.
Troops of FOB Faru also moved to the suspected crossing site at Tunga/Jambako villages, Maradun LGA, on intel concerning terrorists with rustled cattle.
They located terrorists in ambush position and fought them with effective fire, causing them to withdraw.”
RPG fragments damaged two tires of an MRAP truck but no casualties were recorded among personnel.
Troops of FOB Wanzamai responded to reports of kidnapping in Tsafe Local Government Area.
Terrorists opened fire and retreated in the direction of Katsina State to Hayin Bilbis Village.
The investigation found that the terrorists had taken one male resident and two female inhabitants.
There was no recorded casualty on the forces, while attempts are ongoing to ascertain the whereabouts of the abducted persons.
The military said fighting patrols continued throughout the area of responsibility and troops remained on heightened alert.
The general security situation is calm but unpredictable. Troops are in satisfactory spirit and combat readiness.”
