The Defence Headquarters, DHQ, says troops of Operation Hadin Kai have scored substantial advances against Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP during operations conducted in Borno, Yobe, Adamawa and Bauchi states in July.
The military said that 54 terrorists were neutralised, 102 suspected terrorists apprehended and 102 kidnapped victims rescued during the period.
Director of Defence Media activities, Major General Michael Onoja, stated this in the monthly briefing on military activities in Abuja on Friday.
He said 57 rebels and their family members also surrendered to troops after sustained land and air offensives targeting terrorist enclaves.
One of the significant achievements, Onoja added, was the repelling of an attack in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State on July 12 in which Abu Salim al-Barnawi, whom he characterised as a senior Boko Haram/ISWAP commander and propaganda chief, was killed.
He said forces also demolished terrorist logistics bases at Wulgo, Hausari and Danbaure in Ngala Local Government Area, while clearance operations in Gubio and Yunusari local government areas led to recovery of weapons and destruction of terrorist hideouts.
The military also said that it arrested a Sudanese foreign fighter and an illegal immigrant from Ghana during operations in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
Onoja said troops also apprehended a number of logistical providers and suspects with construction supplies, solar panels and other goods meant for terrorist camps.
He said during an operation in Askira Uba, soldiers discovered N1.2m suspected ransom money and captured a wanted criminal, Umar Sani, with an AK-47 gun, magazines and ammo.
In another development, the Defence Headquarters stated that a top ISWAP financial operative surrendered to forces along the Gamboru-Wulgo supply line on July 25.
The suspect surrendered to the military with an AK-47 gun, four magazines, 101 rounds of ammunition, a motorbike and cash. Two children were with him when he surrendered, the military said.
Three more alleged terrorists also surrendered on July 28 having run away from their camps under intense military bombardment.
The Defence Headquarters said the continual surrender of militants showed the increasing success of ongoing military operations to dismantle terrorist leadership and logistics across the North-East.
