Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have carried out coordinated operations in Zamfara, Katsina and Kebbi states rescuing kidnapped victims, foiling an attempted abduction and arresting suspected terrorist logistics suppliers.
The military said the operations, conducted on July 19 and 20, were part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and enhance security in the North-West.
Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer of Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA, said troops responded to a distress call from residents of Shiyan Abiyola in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State on July 20, when terrorists attempted to abduct civilians from a residence.
He said the swift intervention forced the assailants to abandon the operation and flee while several residents were rescued unharmed. Troops later captured the territory to stop future attacks.
In another operation on July 19, troops on patrol in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State rescued three abducted captives who escaped from a terrorist stronghold during a heavy downpour as their captors slept.
The victims were allegedly abducted on July 14 while working on their farms in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State. They have since been handed over to the relevant authorities to be reunited with their families.Similarly, troops on July 19 apprehended a van conveying 10 motorcycles thought to be meant for terrorist groups during a stop-and-search operation in Kebbi State.
Initial enquiries led to the arrest of four other suspects, said to have been sent to collect the motorcycles for a known terrorist accomplice.
The suspects and the motorbikes recovered are in military custody pending further investigations.
The Theatre Command felicitated the troops for their alertness, professionalism and swift response and said the operations foiled the freedom of movement of the terrorists and disrupted their supply network.
It also thanked members of the public for providing timely and credible intelligence and called on citizens to remain watchful and continue to support security authorities as operations against terrorists and criminal groups continue across the region.
