A father and his teenage daughter died after falling down an abandoned well in Yancibi Village, Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State.
Daily Trust reported that the event happened yesterday evening and included Abubakar Abdullahi, about 45, and his daughter, Fiddausi, 15 years old.
Fiddausi fell into the well by mistake, said Saminu Yusuf Abdullahi, Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service.
Her father also fell desperately trying to save her, Abdullahi said.
Rescue workers from the Tsanyawa Branch Office rushed to the scene immediately but could not complete the mission owing to darkness and challenging terrain.
By early Wednesday, July 22, a team from the Fire Service Headquarters joined the attempt and recovered both victims. They were found unconscious and later pronounced dead.
”The bodies were handed over to Village Head of Yancibi, Shamsu Sani.
He then expressed his condolences to the family and appealed to citizens not to go into wells without the necessary emergency equipment.
