While Nigeria’s passport has slipped to 90th position on this year’s Henley Passport Index, it still allows for visa-free travel to 44 locations.
The Nigerian passport ranked 44 on the visa-free scale in the global ranking for July 2026 released yesterday by Henley & Partners.
This means that residents can visit 44 places through visa-free entry, visa on arrival or an electronic visa (e-visa) according on the destination’s entry criteria.
The index uses data from the International Air Transport Association. The Henley Passport Index ranks 199 passports according to how many destinations its holders can visit without a prior visa.
With a visa-free score of 46, Nigeria maintained the 90th position globally, slipping one place from the 89th position it occupied in the April 2026 version of the index.
Nigeria also moved up from 94th and 103rd rankings in 2025 and 2021 respectively.

Although these destinations do not require Nigerians to obtain a visa before travelling, the conditions for entry are different.
Some nations provide visa-free access, some provide visas on arrival, while some require visitors to get an e-visa before departure.
