The governor of Abia State, Alex Otti has said that the state government will be sponsoring Abia-born Master Michael Offorkaile who scored 367 in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination to be among the highest scorers in the country. Government
Receiving the student, his parents and the management of Grundtvig International Secondary School, Oba, Anambra State at his office today, Otti congratulated the teenager on the achievement, saying the state government does not take such excellence for granted.

The governor asked the Commissioner for Tertiary Education to sort out the details of the support and also directed the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication Mr Dodoh Okafor to liaise with the beneficiary’s parents on the appropriate follow up.
Otti said the state will continue to honour achievement in all spheres of the society and expected the student to attain more success as he moves on in his academic journey.
“We don’t take this for granted,” he said. The whole point is to support our own when they do well. We are a meritocratic government and we will never stop celebrating people who do well. We also want you to be an encouragement to those who come behind you and to know that when they do well they will be celebrated.
‘We also want this to be an encouragement for him because the journey has just begun. JAMB is the little hurdle you need to cross to now start a four year degree programme. So you were honoured for being first, and we expect you to do better as you go to the university.

The Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Prof. Uche Emeh Uche, who was introduced as Offorkaile, said the governor had asked her to find the student and bring him to the state for recognition. State.
Mr Odinaka Offorkaile, the father of Offorkaile, who is from Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State and Mr Ige Bello, the Principal of Grundtvig International Secondary School, Oba, said they were not shocked at the student’s success as he has been constant in his academic brilliance.
They congratulated the governor for honouring Offorkaile and lauded his commitment to education and good governance in Abia State.
In his response, Michael Offorkaile congratulated Otti for the honour and lauded him for his transformational leadership in Abia State characterising him as a role model.
“I want to thank you for what you have done for me and my family and also my school today,” he said. “I will also do my best to keep performing, keep inspiring and keep encouraging students from Abia and Nigeria.”
