Nollywood actress Destiny Etiko has disclosed that she lost ₦5 million after taking a bet during the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, stating the event has deterred her from gambling again.
The actress revealed this in a post uploaded on her Instagram handle today, immediately after the World Cup final clash between Spain and Argentina.
“First time ever betting and I lost. I will not try it again. I lost my 5M. In truth I’m done with football. “Anxiety nearly killed me,” she wrote.
Etiko did not reveal, however, what bet she placed or go into details about how she lost the money.
The actress had earlier posted a series of updates on her Instagram Story throughout the World Cup final, showing she was backing Argentina to beat Spain.
In one post she wrote: “Argentina all the way. Who’s waiting?
As the match went she seemed increasingly dissatisfied with Argentina’s play, saying “This ball tough o. “Argentina is pissing me off.
She also hailed Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez for keeping the reigning champions in the game, writing: “The goal keeper is the saviour oo.
Yesterday Spain beat defending champions Argentina 1-0 during extra time to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ferran Torres scored the winning goal in the second half of extra time to deliver Spain their second World Cup championship, 16 years after their first triumph in South Africa in 2010.
Argentina ended the match with 10 men after Enzo Fernández was sent off late on for a second yellow card, with Spain having most of the ball until finally breaking through with Torres.
