Operation FANSAN YAMMA troops in Sector 2 have recorded a major operational success against suspected Lakurawa terrorists in Kebbi State, recovering large calibre guns, improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and other logistics equipment during a clearance operation.
The military said the operation was conducted on June 14, 2026 in the area of Dogon Daji of Dandi Local Government Area where the forces fought the terrorists in a tough engagement.
The troops applied overwhelming firepower on the terrorists, which made them to vacate their camp and flee’, said Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division Nigerian Army and Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA in a statement on Monday.
Troops then went into an active pursuit along the terrorists’ withdrawal routes and recovered a large stockpile of guns, explosives and other supplies left behind by the fleeing insurgents, the military claimed.
Among the items found during the raid were Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) launch tubes, several RPG warheads, various Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), two motorcycles used by the terrorists for movement, battery chargers and other personal things.
There were no deaths among the forces throughout the operation, the statement added.
The valiant warriors decisively routed the Lakurawa Terrorist Group and forced them to leave. “A follow-up chase operation led to the seizure of a large quantity of arms, explosives and logistics equipment abandoned by the terrorists,” the statement stated.
The operation, the Army said, was another major step in the ongoing efforts to cripple the activities of terrorist and bandit networks operating in the North-West region.
It restated the resolve of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA to sustain offensive operations against criminal elements and deny them freedom of action.
The military further promised the locals of sustained efforts toward improving security, disrupting terrorist operations and protecting lives and property in the area.
“The Nigerian Army is committed to sustaining offensive pressure on these criminal elements and ensuring the safety and security of law-abiding citizens,” the statement said.
