Edo Queens game changer Oscar Precious, proved her magic once more as she emerged from the bench to score the first goal in the 39th minute of the first half to provide her side the required morale boosting.
The exciting first half ended with the Benin girls heading for the changing room as the better team.
Rivers Angels were much better in the second half as they fought hard to rehabilitate their reputation after a bad start to the competition. They however equalised in the 72nd minute.
Prolific Chioma Moses registered her presence in the 78th minute to seal victory for the previous WAFU-B champions to determine Edo Queens got the winning goals.
Edo Queens are presently on top of the chart with 9 points and have one more hurdle to pass to take home the crown for the second time in the history of the league.
They now face Bayelsa Queens as the last opponents in the final schedule on Sunday. Victory in that game will see Edo Queens named winners of the 2025/26 NWFL league.
Post-match interview Edo Queens Head Coach Moses Aduku says his players will not celebrate until Sunday when the work is done and dusted.
“I want to thank God and at the same time give kudos to my girls,” he said. “I am happy the girls believe in themselves after the first defeat to Nasarawa Amazons. If you see me now, I’m not celebrating yet, since we still have one more bridge to cross. “So my interview after Sunday encounter with Bayelsa Queens will be more than this.
‘We are not going to be celebrating when we get back to our hotel, we are going to be focusing on the game against Bayelsa Queens. Yes they are the defending champion of course I am from Bayelsa state. We know ourselves. We know. We have our secret. “ “We would go up there and show what we could do.”
Captain Deborah Odiagbe also said: “For Rivers Angels to have qualified for Super 6 they are not a push over side. We knew what we needed, and God did it for us.”
Yes in the second match I was not very happy but coming back to the hotel my teammates spoke to me that I should let it go that we had two more games to go.
“Here we are now. I’m really delighted about the win. It was an extremely challenging game but thank God for getting us through.””
