Barely 25 days after the kidnap of over 40 pupils along with their teachers at Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, Community Grammar School and L.A. Primary School, Esiele, in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, residents of Ogbomoso again trooped out in their large numbers yesterday to demand the release of those in captivity.
This is as the abducted Principal of Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele, Mrs Rachael Alamu, in an emotion-laden voice in another viral video yesterday, appealed to Nigerians not to allow the government to deceive the world that bandits demanded that Sharia Law be enshrined in the country for their release.
The joint abduction had taken place on Friday, May 15, 2026, at about 9:30 a.m with those whisked away kept in captive since, writes The PUNCH.
Protests were staged around the country last week with the Nigerian Union of Teachers directing its members across the state to embark on a strike till the rescued of the kidnapped victims.
Hundreds of citizens of Ogbomoso yesterday stopped the two main highways and state roads leading to the town, producing artificial gridlock along the affected areas.
“What will it take for the government at the centre and the state government to rescue our beloved ones since May 15,” Kehinde Dahunsi, one of the demonstrators, said. This is sad.
As heard on radio, television stations and read in the pages of newspapers, the biological sister of the former Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu and her twin children (Peter and Paul) were kidnapped early hours on Wednesday, June 3 and freed on Saturday, June 6, 2026. Only three days gap.
“But our people have been in captivity for twenty-five days now. “Why should not the governments use the same mechanism used to rescue the ex-minister’s sister and her two sons to rescue our family members?” he complained.
In the now popular video, Alamu made a distress call from the kidnappers’ hideout urging Nigerians to disseminate the footage and not play politics with their lives.
“Good day, everyone,” she said in the video. I’ve come to make some explanations please.
“We have been in this place for twenty-four days today. And it looks like some folks are making our difficulties harder already.
“We were shown some print media where it was mentioned that these people that abducted us were demanding the release of some people. They demanded a billion Naira. Demanded that Sharia be written into the country. These are untrue. They’re just trying to make an issue for us.
“We are here, we have not been compelled to pray in an Islamic way. They have left us in peace. They have not disturbed us about that. They are not asking for sharia. They are not asking for money.
“They want one thing and one thing only and that is the release of some of their people. I don’t know why they are selling this rumour to make it hard for us.
“Please, we beseech you, please don’t make political capital out of our lives. Nigerians, please help us to spread this, let it get viral.
“They are not seeking for the Sharia law. That’s not right. They are not asking for arms. They are not asking for money. All they want is the freedom of some people and the government should talk with them and know those whom they will release for them.
“I don’t know why they are playing politics with our lives. Please Nigerians, our lives are in your hands. Help us spread it like crazy. Don’t let the government fool the whole world.”
