The Lagos State Government has enhanced the enforcement of environmental laws by sealing off Pinnock Beach Estate in the Osapa London neighborhood of Lekki and three other properties across the state for allegedly discharging untreated sewage into public drains and canals.
The enforcement action was carried out on Thursday, May 7, 2026 by the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office after what the agency claimed as “repeated warnings and abatement notices” to the impacted facilities.
The Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, revealed the enforcement action on his official X handle. He said Pinnock Beach Estate was sealed for allegedly pumping untreated sewage into a canal which resulted in environmental pollution, offensive odour and health risks to residents and aquatic life.
Wahab said the Lagos State Office of Wastewater Management on Thursday 7th May, 2026 sealed-off Pinnock Beach Estate, Osapa London, Lekki, Lagos for the deliberate discharge of untreated sewage through a pumping machine into the canal which caused environmental nuisance, offensive odour as well as endangering human health and aquatic life after several warnings and abatement notices.
The agency also sealed a property at Number 28 Amodu Street, Itire, Surulere, following verified complaints from residents of continuous discharge of raw sewage into a neighboring compound and public drainage channels, which the agency described as a serious environmental and health hazard capable of exposing residents to disease outbreaks.
Another home in Ajah located on Oladipo Dumoye Street, Mashy Hill Estate, Ado Road, Eti-Osa neighborhood was shut for allegedly discharging untreated sewage into public drains leading to environmental disturbance, clogging of drains and pollution . Vintage Heights Estate on Ojulari Street in Elegushi, Lekki was also sealed for allegedly discharging untreated sewage into drainage systems and indiscriminately discharging raw sewage into the immediate area.
Wahab said the Vintage Heights Estate was blocked due to the willful release of untreated sewage into public drains through a pumping equipment and raw sewage into the environment, creating environmental nuisance, drainage blockage, pollution and harming human health.
The Lagos State Government has advised residents, estate managers and property owners to closely comply with correct management of waste water, noting that any individual or organisation caught contravening the environmental legislation will be made to face appropriate sanctions and even prosecution. The administration has restated its commitment to ensuring environmental safety and protecting public health through stringent implementation of sanitation and wastewater management legislation across the state.
