A 30-year-old pregnant woman is getting medical help after a 24-year-old guy named Ugwu Desmond allegedly raped and beat her in the Affa community of Udi Local Government Area in Enugu State.
The Enugu State Police Command says that the event happened on March 14, 2026, while the victim was walking home from a neighbor’s house along a calm lane in Amokwo-Affa.
The police said that the perpetrator, who was armed with a cutlass, followed the victim and then attacked her from behind. He is said to have pushed her to the ground, tried to strangle her, and covered her mouth so she couldn’t scream. The attacker then pulled her into an unfinished structure, where he threatened to murder her before raping her and hurting her.
The victim was able to survive the attack and told the police about it about 6:15 a.m. the next day. The Affa Police Division acted quickly and caught the offender.
The police added that the victim was transported to the hospital right away for treatment. At the same time, investigators worked at the scene and collected important evidence, such as the cutlass used in the attack and clothing that may have blood and semen traces on it.
SP Daniel Ndukwe, the Command’s spokesman, confirmed the news and said that the suspect has admitted to the crime.
Mamman Bitrus Giwa, the Commissioner of Police, called the event worrisome and promised that a full investigation is still going on. He said that the suspect will be taken to court once the investigations were over.
Giwa also told people to stay alert and report any suspicious activity right away. He said that being aware of what’s going on in the neighborhood is very important for stopping crime.
