President Donald Trump tried to respond to accusations that his attack on Iran didn’t have a clear goal by naming four specific goals, one of which was to make sure the country never got a nuclear weapon.
According to AFP, he said the strikes were the “last, best chance” to hit Iran, which has been a major enemy of the US for decades.
He said at a White House event that “Our goals are clear” after US officials presented different reasons for the US-Israeli offensive.
“First, we’re taking away Iran’s ability to launch missiles… Second, we’re annihilating their navy… Third, we’re making sure that the world’s biggest supporter of terrorism will never be able to get a nuclear weapon.
“Finally, we are making sure that the Iranian government can’t keep giving weapons, money, and orders to terrorist groups outside of their borders,” he stated.
Trump has said in the past that the conflict was necessary because Iran was trying to restore its nuclear program and could soon have missiles that could hit the US.
But he hadn’t given four reasons before, one of which was to stop Iran from backing violent groups in the region like Hezbollah and Hamas.
So far, US and Israeli troops have hit hundreds of targets in Iran, such as the Islamic Republic’s missiles, navy, and command-and-control centers.
