Cole Palmer scored three goals in the first half to help Chelsea beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-1 at Molineux on Saturday. This made Liam Rosenior the second English manager to win his first four Premier League games.
The problems for the hosts started early. Matt Doherty fouled João Pedro in the box after 15 minutes, and Palmer scored the penalty to give Chelsea the lead, according to AFP.
José Sá, the Wolves’ goalkeeper, stopped Enzo Fernández and Malo Gusto from doing any more harm, but the damage was already done.
Wolves made things worse when Yerson Mosquera fouled Pedro again in the box. Palmer comfortably took the second penalty, which was his 50th goal in 100 competitive games for Chelsea.
Three minutes later, he scored his third goal of the first half with a close-range shot from Marc Cucurella’s cross, making the game out of reach.
Wolves, who hadn’t scored in their last ten home league games, gave fans a ray of optimism after the break. Mateus Mané hit the post with a curling shot, and then Adam Armstrong, who was making his debut, set up Tolu Arokodare, who scored from close range to make it 3-1.
Still, the hosts couldn’t make a real comeback, and Pedro Neto missed a late chance as the game neared its end.
Chelsea’s win leaves them in fifth place in the table, just one point behind the last Champions League position. Wolves, on the other hand, are still in the relegation zone with 19 league losses, three fewer than Derby County’s record low for a Premier League season.
