The Bayelsa State Police Command said that Levi Anyanwu, who is currently serving in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), is missing.
Reports from Daily Trust said that 24-year-old Anyanwu, whose NYSC registration number is BYS/25A/0244, went missing from his primary assignment at the Ijaw National Academy in Kaiama, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of the State on October 8, 2025.
The State Police Command had already directed its Anti-Kidnapping Unit to find the corps member and bring him or her to them.
Police officers from the unit were said to have started an investigation to find out what happened to him.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) DSP Musa Mohammed said in a statement that early investigations showed that the missing corps member was last seen with Mr. and Mrs. Wisdom George, who are also Jehovah’s Witnesses, before the event.
He said, “Detectives invited Mr. Oke Emmanuel, a corps member who is supposed to be the subject’s roommate, to come in on October 10, 2025, and questioned him. He said that the subject remained with the George family until 06/10/25.
Mr. George further said that the corps member was sick and was sent to the Kaiama Referral Hospital for treatment on 04/10/25. He said that the corps member was released on 05/10/25. That on 06/10/25, the missing corps member left for an unknown place.
The phone of the missing youth corps member was left in his residence. Detectives tracked a GSM call from No. 0906193291 to an inmate at the Igbara Correctional Custodian Centre in Abeokuta, Ogun State, who was being held in connection with a kidnapping case.
The suspect said they spotted the phone number on social media and chose to take advantage of the victim’s father, Mr. Anyanwu Simon, who is 56 years old. Someone paid N100,000.00 into the account Opay; 7042793493, which belongs to Atinuke Oluwalose, a close collaborator with the detainee who is currently in jail in Abeokuta.
“Detectives’ findings suggest that the victim may have acted out of a disturbing realization. He made statements regarding several recent societal tastes and cravings that go against his religious beliefs.
“Steps are currently being taken to bring together law enforcement actions so that a meaningful conclusion can be reached on the investigators’ findings, which are very revealing. In this strange scenario, there is no kidnapping. He remarked, “We are still working hard to make sure that foreclosure is found in the ongoing inquiry.”
